What to expect

Free initial online consultation

 Having taken the courageous decision to reach out for counselling, especially if you have never experienced therapy before, I understand it might be unsettling to take that first step into the unknown.  That is why I offer a free initial consultation. 


This is a great opportunity for us to talk through any questions you may have, what you are hoping to achieve in counselling and discover if we are a good match for working together. You can let me know a bit about your current circumstances and the things that are troubling you. But don’t worry, I don’t expect you to tell me everything at once, that takes trust: hopefully, we will build that together over time.


There is no obligation to book any further sessions. If you do decide to go ahead, we will arrange a regular weekly appointment either in my therapy room, online, or outdoors.

The sessions

My role in our sessions is not to give advice or tell you what to do. Instead, I will listen to your concerns with empathy and without judgement. I will help you to think about how you are feeling and we will explore the roots of your difficulties.


This may involve looking at family relationships, significant life events, your patterns of behaviour and ways of thinking. Our sessions will help you to see your difficulties more clearly and often from a different perspective. Understanding yourself better can enable you to make positive changes in your life and build your ability to cope.


 Walk-and-talk therapy invites nature into our therapeutic experience, allowing us to reflect and draw on the landscape around us, whatever the weather.  


Length of Therapy

Some people come to see a therapist with a very specific concern that can be explored in a few sessions. Others come with more long-term, deeply rooted issues.


I work on an open-ended basis which means that together, we will regularly look at how you are progressing and jointly agree when you feel ready to bring the sessions to an end.
